Job description
The Fiduciary Manager Responsible Investment (RI) Policy is a strategic advisor to our pension fund clients and is responsible for providing RI policy advice to the clients, providing RI-related input to Fiduciary Managers and the embedding of RI in the development and realization of Fiduciary advice, decisions and execution reviews. This all in-line with client requirements, laws and regulations and the overall fiduciary strategy and vision of APG AM, in order to contribute to the successful realization of the clients RI strategy.
The role is situated within the department of the Chief Fiduciary Officer (CFi). CFi is designed to act as a trusted and independent advisor of our pension fund clients. It advises clients on strategic balance-sheet and investment management strategy, and translates the client strategy into a tangible set of mandates. CFi evaluates the performance of selected internal and external asset managers and keeps oversight over the risk and return of clients’ total investment portfolios. The Head of the FM department is a member of APG Asset Management's Management Board.
As a Fiduciary Manager RI, your daily work includes:
- First point of contact for clients on RI policy questions and related topics, act as an independent advisor to clients and ultimately responsible for defining assignments and delivery thereof;
- Writing policy proposals and advising clients on a wide range of RI topics like climate, impact, biodiversity, human rights, corporate governance, SFDR/SFR and EU regulation and ESG-integration instruments such as (a) exclusion, (b) ESG-integration, (c) active ownership (voting and engagement), etc;
- Responding to client ad-hoc requests for reports, memos, slide decks and other materials in order for them to communicate with a variety of stakeholders and to inform our internal stakeholders.
- Developing thought leadership on RI policy and related issues and liaise closely with the market to be informed about state of the art market developments and monitor external developments/trends in the area of RI;
- Providing your colleagues within the FM department (Client Managers, Fiduciary Managers, Research, Strategists, Reporting Officers) with RI specific knowledge and share your expertise;
- Advising and translating clients’ RI policy into the mandates of specific asset classes (asset classes divided between team members) and carrying out a regular review of the implementation and execution of clients’ RI policy into the mandates of all asset classes;
- Responsible for building and maintaining an effective and fruitful relationship with Portfolio Management, the External Strategy Management (ESM) team and second line risk staff.
- You will be based in our Amsterdam office, with the possibility to work from home a part of the week.
We ask for
You are an independent and analytical thinker with excellent communication skills, who builds and maintains strong relationships. You have high standards for the quality of your work and your organizational sensitivity towards both the client and APG is well developed.
Furthermore we ask for:
- An academic education in a relevant field;
- Minimum of 4-8 years of relevant experience (within financial services or asset management is a pre);
- (Extensive) strong content knowledge on and experience with the latest developments within Responsible Investment, ambition setting and knowledge of translating RI Policy into investment mandates;
- Having in depth knowledge/experience in one or more of the area’s of: (i) Climate, (ii) Impact, (iii) Biodiversity, (iv) Human Rights, (v) Corporate Governance, (vi) SFDR/SFR and EU regulation and ESG-integration instruments such as (a) exclusion, (b) ESG-integration, (c) active ownership (voting and engagement), etc;
- Good understanding of financial markets, institutional investment practices and asset management and how existing and emerging ESG considerations can impact investment performance;
- The capability of building and structuring a solid argument, and the ability to defend your own opinion and to stand your ground;
- Having an extensive network concerning RI;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and English (both fluent proficiency);
- An enthusiastic, driven, self-starter who enjoys working in a team of RI professionals.
